Cody Rhodes’ time as Stardust may have been a low point in his career, but Matt Cardona believes he had things much worse as part of WWE.
Rhodes left WWE in 2016, feeling creatively frustrated as Stardust and would go on to reinvent himself as a top star in wrestling before his 2022 return.
In a recent video from Dr. Beau Hightower’s YouTube channel, Cardona argued that he had things worse than the former Stardust. He said,
“Cody talks about how bad he had it in WWE. I mean, did he really have it that bad? He never missed a WrestleMania, like, maybe he wasn’t where he wanted to be. Maybe the Stardust thing wasn’t what he wanted, but trust me, I had it way worse.
“But I’m super proud of everything that he did to go out there, to take the chance, to bet on himself. He quit, you know, he walked out, he’s, like, ‘I know I can be better’ and he says it all the time, the undesirable to undeniable, and he did it. So much respect for him for that.”
Cardona’s time as Zack Ryder ended in 2020. Like Rhodes, he has since reinvented himself as a top heel on the independents and other promotions.
Despite his feelings about his WWE run, Cardona has repeatedly teased a return and has said he hopes to finish his in-ring career as a WWE Superstar.
