Netflix held a presentation at its Los Angeles headquarters this week to address the major new partnership with WWE, which kicks off next month with the debut of Monday Night RAW on the platform.
During the Q&A session, Netflix’s implementation of weekly live streaming was discussed, particularly the streaming problems users faced during the live Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match broadcast on the platform.
Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria mentioned that the company’s engineers have addressed these issues and are “ready and excited” about WWE on the platform.
Bajaria said, “Whenever we do any live events, obviously, we want it to go very smoothly for every single one of our members. I think also to put things in perspective, it was 65 million concurrent streamers, right? It was a very successful night and a lot of people. The scale was very big, which was great. There was a lot of interest in it, and the thing is, when you test and push something to 65 million people … you can’t learn these things until you do them. So you take a big swing.”
Bajaria also noted that Netflix has learned from past challenges and has been diligently preparing for WWE RAW’s live weekly premiere on the platform on January 6.
She continued, “We’ve learned from those things, and we’ve obviously done a lot of stuff to learn and get ready for the NFL, and Beyonce, and Half-Time, and we’re totally ready and excited for WWE.”
WWE Chief Creative Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque also chimed in, “I’ll just say if it blinks a couple of times and we do sixty million, I’m good with that.”
Bajaria replied to Triple H, “We’re going to be ready for your sixty million!”
