Pete Dunne has set his sights on the WWE Intercontinental Championship and is planning to hold the title under that name and not as Butch.

Dunne was given the Butch name upon his move to WWE’s main roster in 2022 but reverted back to his original name in January of this year.

On this week’s episode of RAW, Dunne won a triple-threat first-round match in the tournament to determine Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker’s next challenger.

In a WWE RAW “Digital Exclusive,” Dunne took issue at former ally Sheamus still referring to him as Butch. He said,

“I’ve been in this business long enough to know you’re gonna win matches, you’re gonna lose matches, it’s part of the job. But for Sheamus, that scumbag, to turn around and still call me Butch, to have a laugh that something that nearly killed my career, this is all I’ve got, man. He knows that. All I’ve ever been and ever will be is a fighter. To be demoralized and reduced to that name, it shows what kind of person he really is. I don’t deserve it. You all know that.

“But you know what I do deserve, after all the setbacks and backstabs? A shot at the Intercontinental Title. I’m not taking this opportunity lightly. When I win that tournament and I have my hand lifted in the air, you can all call me something I approve of — champion.”

Jey Uso also qualified for the next round of the tournament on this week’s edition of WWE RAW. Sheamus will compete next week in a first-round match.
