There is a wave of support within WWE for Natalya to be the first-ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion, it has been reported.
The title was announced earlier this month. A 12-woman tournament is currently underway to crown the first champion.
According to WrestleVotes on a recent Backstage Pass Q&A, there are some in WWE who are eager to see Natalya win the title.
WrestleVotes made clear that this does not guarantee she will win, but there is “some favoritism” among those in the company.
Natalya has yet to compete in her first-round match, which will see the Canadian face Alba Fyre and Damage CTRL’s Kairi Sane.
So far, Dakota Kai and Lyra Valkyria have advanced. There is also a first-round match coming between Zoey Stark, Raquel Rodriguez, and Kayden Carter.
Natalya is WWE’s longest-tenured female talent, having made her TV debut in 2008. It has been seven years since her last singles title reign.
