Vince McMahon attempted to purchase Netflix’s docuseries about him to prevent it from being broadcast, it has been reported this week.

On September 25, Netflix will release its Mr. McMahon docuseries, consisting of six one-hour episodes about the former WWE Chairman.

On today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that McMahon tried to block the docuseries’ release by purchasing it from Netflix. He said,

“Vince obviously realized that this documentary was going to be different from what he had imagined it to be. This was before the Netflix deal with WWE which was signed in January this year… He had apparently tried to buy the documentary which basically was to kill it.

“You know buy the rights to kill it, like a lot of media does, or a lot of rich people do with unfavorable media at times. And Netflix turned him down. And then he tried to get Ari Emmanuel to do the same to get the thing killed and that didn’t work. So here we are.”

The project was first announced in 2020, before McMahon’s departure from WWE due to allegations of sexual misconduct with female employees.

The docuseries will cover several controversies, including McMahon’s exit from WWE as well as the use of steroids in wrestling and Chris Benoit.

The 79-year-old has put out a statement criticizing the docuseries claiming that Netflix has tried to misrepresent him as being identical to his WWE character.

WWE has entered a lengthy partnership with Netflix that will see RAW move to the streaming juggernaut in January 2025.
