No moment in the history of Survivor Series can compare to the arrival of Roman Reigns and The Shield in 2012, according to the Tribal Chief himself.
Reigns made his main roster debut at the event alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose during the show’s WWE Championship main event.
The influence of The Shield allowed for CM Punk to retain his title against John Cena and Ryback, one year after Punk won the gold at the 2011 event.
Sitting down with Sports Illustrated, Reigns was asked about his favorite Survivor Series moment and explained his choice. He said,
“I’m going to with my debut—that’s the greatest. The Shield’s debut is the most special thing that ever happened to Survivor Series. I would say based off of how it all shaped out, The Shield debuting was one of the greatest transitional situations of re-young [sic] talent coming in, taking the company by the neck, and this is what you have today.”
Reigns, Ambrose, and Rollins would go on to become three of WWE’s top stars and would all win the WWE Championship and the Grand Slam.
Reigns will step into WarGames this weekend where he, the OG Bloodline, and CM Punk will face off against Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline and Bronson Reed.
