Samantha Irvin shocked the wrestling world by announcing her departure from WWE ahead of the October 16th episode of Monday Night RAW.
Irvin is not expected to join AEW, as she had planned to leave WWE to focus on other projects.
Following her announcement, Irvin engaged in discussions with fans on social media, expressing her desire to be a manager instead of pursuing a career as a ring announcer.
She tweeted, “I don’t like announcing,” and added, “I’m serious! Announcing was only supposed to be my way in. I wanted to manage, maybe even become general manager one day. But WWE saw no other future for me besides announcer. I love watching the action but I don’t love being an announcer.”
Irvin also pointed out, “They wanted Rico to stay in the big leagues. I don’t know why everyone pretending like he was always in great positions at WWE 100. My husband is a millionaire so yes, I don’t have to do a job I don’t like anymore.”
Some individuals were discontented with Irvin’s reference to Ricochet’s financial status. Fans have been frustrated by wrestlers switching to other promotions for better pay or opportunities for quite some time.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that a source within WWE stated that the company discourages talent from engaging with fans in that manner, as Jade Cargill faced similar criticism but chose not to respond.
The report states, “The person said that many in WWE respected her decision to leave, but after those posts were not happy about that aspect but because she was gone they couldn’t force her to take it down.”
Irvin also mentioned that Ricochet is now fairly compensated for matches he enjoys and is thriving.
She further stated, “I am so glad I don’t have a boss anymore so I can say this. Shut the f*** upppppp. Woohoo feels great.”
It is to be noted that WWE does not endorse its talent responding to fans in this manner.
