On a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Seth Rollins recalled his Money in the Bank cash-in during the main event of WrestleMania 31. He said,
“The idea to cash in the contract at WrestleMania was my idea. I had put it into the ether probably two months prior or so, because you remember I win this thing in July or June. Immediately when you win it you look at the landscape and you go okay, when can I cash this in?”
Rollins recalled the hostile response to Roman Reigns and feeling that fans booing Reigns winning the title at WrestleMania would be bad. He said,
“I’m a hated, hated, hated villain at this time. If I win the title, then we can give the audience time to understand the story of who the good guy is supposed to be against me. I’m not cool at all at this point. I’m like, let me be the guy. Let me be the heel that can get what we want out of this change.”
Rollins’ cash-in would be the first time that Money in the Bank was cashed in at WrestleMania and saw Seth win the WWE World Championship.
According to Rollins, it was only confirmed to him that he’d be cashing in after his match with Randy Orton earlier in the show.
Rollins held the WWE World Championship until November 2015 when he was forced to vacate the gold due to an injury.
