Shawn Michaels’ WrestleMania X battle with Razor Ramon may be a classic, but HBK didn’t expect that to be the case at the time of the match.
The match saw the two men compete to crown the Undisputed Intercontinental Champion with Ramon getting the coveted win.
On a recent edition of the “Sportsnet” podcast, Michaels recalled competing against Ramon and his previous ladder match with Bret Hart. He said,
“Scott and I, when we went in there that first time, certainly from a pay-per-view standpoint, even Bret and I, having the very first one, I don’t think anybody at that time thought it would become everything that it has become. Back then we just went out there trying to have the best match that we could, this was a new concept at the time.
“Very proud that I feel like those matches still kind of stand the test of time, being the original ones … certainly a phenomenal concept, and like everything in the WWE they have made it bigger and better and more extravagant.”
While Shawn is considered one of the all-time ladder match aficionados, the two-time WWE Hall of Famer has an underwhelming 2-4 win/loss record in the match.
Michaels would also compete in a TLC match at the WWE TLC 2009 pay-per-view event which saw himself and Triple H win the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships.
