Kurt Angle proved to be far more than an on-screen leader to Shelton Benjamin, the former WWE United States Champion has revealed.
Benjamin was called up to WWE’s main roster in late 2002 as part of ‘Team Angle,’ a group that had the Olympian’s best interests at heart.
On a recent edition of the “Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw” podcast, Benjamin recalled Angle taking him under his wing. He said,
“Turns out it was like having an older brother. Kurt made us feel like we were just as important as he was in the grand scheme of things. It was like — brothers immediately. He didn’t talk down to us, he was just cool. I can’t think of any negative things to say about Kurt during that time.”
Benjamin would team with Charlie Haas in Team Angle and the pair would capture the WWE Tag Team Championships in 2003.
