Stevie Richards deeply regrets the infamous chair shot he delivered to JBL, believing his actions fell well below what is expected of a wrestler.
At ECW One Night Stand 2005, JBL legitimately attacked the Blue Meanie during a brawl near the end of the show, bloodying the ECW staple.
The incident was later turned into an on-screen program and Richards would hit an incredibly loud chair shot on JBL during a match.
On a recent edition of his “The Stevie Richards Show” podcast, Richards admitted that he regrets what happened. He said,
“Every single day that this comes up, I feel bad about it. It’s not what we get in the business to do.”
Richards caught the Texan with the rim of the chair, cutting JBL’s scalp, and he originally intended for JBL to take the shot on his knees.
The BWO alum also recalled the backstage scene after the chair shot after he apologized profusely to JBL. He said,
“Gorilla was empty. Only ‘Taker was there. He said, ‘Listen, you have to understand. The roster’s thin enough as it is. We need all the guys we can have right now. And now one more guy’s out because of you.’
“I followed him like a little puppy dog to the trainer, and stayed there while they stapled him up. Independent to whatever he did to Meanie, he deserved an apology. … I was 100% wrong for that.”
