Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s animated film “Moana 2” was a huge success. The movie released in the U.S. on November 27, 2024, and earned over a billion dollars at the box office.

The film is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, with producers Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. It features Auli‘i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui, along with cast members Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Scherzinger returning in their roles.

Variety is reporting that after just five days on Disney+, “Moana 2″ became the third-largest animated release on the platform, drawing 27.3 million views.

This marks Walt Disney Animation’s biggest streaming launch since “Encanto.” The original “Moana” film from 2016 has garnered 1.4 billion hours of streaming.

The Rock is currently working on a live-action version of “Moana,” set for release in July 2026.
