Dave Bautista was broke before his big movie break as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, WWE CCO Triple H has claimed this week.
In 2014, Bautista debuted as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy, a role he’d reprise several times before finishing last year.
On a recent edition of the “Roommates” podcast, Triple H shared that Bautista was in financial straits before landing the role. He said,
“He was living off the money he made wrestling, but he’d made a lot of bad investments. At some point, he went completely broke. He was living on someone’s couch, just trying to get his foot in the door.
“When Guardians hit, everything changed. He started getting other roles, and it just took off from there. He went the difficult route of doing it, not just relying on being the action guy.”
Since Guardians, Bautista has appeared in several high-profile franchises, including Blade Runner and the James Bond film Spectre.
Bautista’s final match for WWE was as part of WrestleMania 35 in 2019, where he lost to Triple H.
