During a recent appearance on the “Ring The Belle” podcast, WWE Hall of Famers Lita and Trish Stratus discussed their famous main event match on WWE RAW.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
Trish Stratus on how she and Lita weren’t told their match would headline Raw: “As females there was no like ‘Hey, one day we’re gonna lead towards this,’ absolutely not. I don’t even think they would’ve thought (…) I think it was in the moment; I think the feud was — everything sort of was in the right place, right time thing.”
Lita on her mentality at the time: “I had built up this mentality of don’t get excited, it’s not gonna happen. Something’s going to change, you know.”
Stratus on the backstage kiss not being their idea: “Not that I wouldn’t kiss (…) I just didn’t — I didn’t think we needed a kiss to start — kick this main event match off.”
Layla won the WWE Divas Title during WWE Extreme Rules 2012, taking over for Beth Phoenix against then-champion Nikki Bella. However, Layla had mixed feelings about the win.
During a recent appearance on the “No Name Wrestling” podcast, Layla noted that although she felt privileged to be the champion, she wished the circumstances had been somewhat different.
The WWE alumna also compared her generation of female Superstars to the current talent.

On her title win: “If I’m going to come back as a face, I don’t want to win the title like that, I would rather have a story and chase it. When I look back, I should have never agreed to that. It felt great because I was the — I think I’m the first Divas Search winner to win both titles because I won the Women’s Champion and then I won the Divas Championship. So, it felt amazing, and to be honored anyway to get that.”
On being part of the WWE Divas era: “If the Divas would have been given the opportunity and we were able to just go and prove what we could do, you know?” She noted and added that she’s happy for how things have changed for women in the modern area. Part of me is like yeah, I wish we would’ve had that, and that’s just the acceptance that, that wasn’t our era.”
On fans not remembering her as much: “I totally understand why, you know, nobody really remembers me or appreciates the work that I’ve done, and that’s okay, but in time, now that I’m back around and back on social media, who knows what’s possible in the future?”
