Vince Russo may have been brought into WCW as a writer, but the infamous personality believes he outperformed the majority of on-screen talent.
After joining the promotion in late 1999, Russo quickly found himself becoming a regular on TV and had a brief reign as WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
During the latest episode of VICE’s Dark Side of the Ring, Russo reflected on his on-screen work with WCW, which he feels outshined others. He said,
“I’m just going to be one thousand percent completely honest with you: as far as an on-air character? I felt that I was better than 80% of that roster.
“I made the mistake of saying ‘You know what? ‘F it, if you want ratings, I will go out there and get ratings myself. I almost got killed, bro. I almost got killed!”
Russo competed seven times in WCW and won six of his matches with the only outlier seeing him have a no-contest with Stevie Ray in September 2000.
