On July 2, WWE successfully obtained a new trademark associated with an old WCW pay-per-view event.

The pay-per-view event in question, SuperBrawl, was held annually from 1991 to 2001 and was considered one of WCW’s premier shows.

Notable matches include the inaugural main event, featuring Ric Flair and Tatsumi Fujinami competing for the WCW and NWA World Heavyweight Championships, and the final show, which culminated in a retirement match between Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

WWE gained ownership of WCW’s trademarks for an extended period following the acquisition of the rival promotion.

In 2019, Cody Rhodes sought to secure the rights to the SuperBrawl name and other WCW pay-per-event themes associated with his father, Dusty Rhodes, only to eventually reach a settlement with WWE.

As part of the agreement, WWE granted Cody the trademark rights to the “Cody Rhodes” name and several WCW-themed events he had sought ownership of.

WWE filed the new trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for broadcast media purposes.

You can check out the description of the trademark filing below:

“Exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing wrestling news and information through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information.”
