Quick Hits Results:
- Rey Mysterio defeated The Miz by pinfall.
- Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) defeated Goldberg by submission.
- Raw Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender’s Elimination Chamber Match: Bianca Belair defeated Alexa Bliss, Doudrop, Liv Morgan, Nikki A.S.H. and Rhea Ripley
- Ronda Rousey and Naomi defeated Charlotte Flair and Sonya Deville by submission.
- Falls Count Anywhere Match: Drew McIntyre defeated Madcap Moss by pinfall.
- Raw Women’s Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) defeated Lita by pinfall.
- SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (c) vs. The Viking Raiders didn’t happen. It was called off after The Usos attacked The Viking Raiders on their entrance.
- Elimination Chamber Match for the WWE Championship: Brock Lesnar defeated AJ Styles, Austin Theory, Bobby Lashley (c), Riddle and Seth Rollins to win the WWE Championship.
Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:
Kickoff and The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio
- In typical fashion, our pre-show panel is in the studio and not Saudi Arabia. It just makes sense to keep them stateside and save the money and hassle on the flights. Jackie Redmond, Peter Rosenberg and Matt Camp are running down the card.
- Natalya is here, for some reason, speaking to Kevin Patrick. Apparently her cat blocked Rhea Ripley on Instagram. Sounds like a WrestleMania feud in today’s era, right?
- We’re in full video package mode. Nothing interesting happening.
- The set is huge, as expected. It looks good.
- Immediate “you suck” chants. The crowd’s hot.
- We’re at three, I think—maybe more—times that they’re reiterating that Elimination Chamber is outside of the United States for the first time. I hate it when WWE acts like they need to pat themselves on the back like that multiple times per show just in case you didn’t hear it, as if anyone’s going to be wowed by it other than the shareholders who aren’t watching the program to begin with and will only hear that during the next investor’s call or press release.
- “This is awesome” – I mean, it’s a decent enough match, but when you say everything is awesome just because it exists, “awesome” feels watered down. I’m enjoying it, but let’s cool it a bit.
- The Miz orchestrates some confusion that makes the referee send Dominik away from ringside.
- The Miz gets caught with a quick pin soon after. Dominik didn’t even get time to leave. For some reason, they bothered to have a post-match continuation that essentially culminates in a frog splash.
Universal Championship Match
- Let’s see how grandiose Roman’s entrance is here on this huge stage.
- Admittedly, not all that different.
- Gotta love when they have the Goldberg chants at full volume and show 3 shots of the crowd not reacting and chanting “Goldberg” at all. Bad camera work, guys.
- We’re 15 minutes into the show and the bell hasn’t even rang.
- I have this match at 6 minutes. How long do you think it will be?
- I’m not anticipating an actual Jackhammer, but we’ve already gotten our first spear.
- Superman Punch. We’ve almost checked everything off the list. I imagine another spear is coming up.
- Yup. Goldberg’s second spear.
- Guillotine. This could be how they end it. I was anticipating a spear pinfall, but….oh, yup, that’s it. Roman retains.
- Reigns didn’t even hit one spear in the “spear vs spear” match! LOL! Why do some of you people keep giving WWE an out and thinking these matches are going to be any good? They’re going to keep doing it and disappointing if you don’t hold them accountable.
- Anyone else catch that a split second of Roman’s old theme just played?
Women’s Elimination Chamber Match
- I always love the drumming cage lowering music. It’s so good and ominous.
- We know Bianca Belair is entering last. Who are your guesses for who kicks it off? I’m thinking Doudrop and Rhea Ripley.
- Well, I’m immediately wrong with the second entrant for the pod being Doudrop. And Rhea Ripley following after her, too. Dead wrong.
- So far, their gear is significantly better than it’s ever been. They used to just have plain body suits with t-shirts on top of them. So far, Belair, Doudrop and Ripley are all wearing outfits that match their style and look like they actually created them for this show. Massive, massive upgrade.
- Fan of Ripley doing some pull-ups in the pod. Give her the belt and a legitimate push already instead of dawdling and backpedaling in favor of Flair.
- Nikki A.S.H. has her best outfit with this full suit on, too.
- Liv Morgan’s got her Britney Spears “Oops…I Did It Again” kind of outfit on. Not what I was expecting, but hey, I’m not complaining.
- For some reason, Nikki and Liv are staying in the ring while Alexa is coming out. Why didn’t Nikki go into the pod?
- So…they have 3 people enter pods, then the 2 who will start, then Bliss comes out to go into the pod? Why? Just to have Bliss come out last? What purpose did that serve?
- Also, why is Alexa Bliss in exactly the same sort of getup and entrance as before when she was “cured” of this whole gimmick?
- It seems like I just blinked and they’re already counting for an entrant to come in. That was fast. Doudrop is out now.
- Crowd is firmly behind Morgan out of these three. She’s the only babyface in there right now, though, so maybe that’s why.
- Again, super fast intervals. Next up is Rhea Ripley, who is stalking A.S.H. gleefully.
- Ripley eliminates Nikki by pinfall.
- Ripley had her chance to stack up Doudrop, so now, it’s Morgan’s turn to do that and eliminate her.
- Belair and Ripley show off with some delayed vertical suplexes. Neat moment.
- Liv is taken out by Bliss.
- Ripley’s about to be taken out by Belair, I think. There we go. We’re down to Bliss and Belair, meaning Bliss is soon to be eliminated.
- Another “this is awesome” chant.
- Belair predictably wins with a KOD.
- Hahahaha! They have fake pyro on a digital WrestleMania sign to avoid having the sign melt like it did at Royal Rumble!
Time for a buffer segment about the Special Olympics.
Women’s Tag Team Match
- Do you care? I don’t. I’d love to just skip to the photo op moment that this is all about and just show Rousey posing with Flair looking upset. There’s no point to this match other than them stalling and I don’t even care about seeing Rousey/Flair again to begin with, so the whole “tease for the thing that really matters” is basically “waste time until a match you couldn’t care less about” in my mind.
- Also, Flair’s outfit is the worst of the night. Plain red jumpsuit, basically? They couldn’t do something more after she has all these ornate robes?
- Rousey’s wearing her Olympics gi. That’s neat for anyone who cares.
- Rousey’s arm is barely even tied behind her back. It’s just her hand slightly behind her very loosely. Hahahahaha never mind, her hand is literally in front of her.
- Flair’s outfit is really just making me think she’s a kid who woke up on Christmas morning and rolled out of her bed in her pajamas.
- How nice of Flair to stand there and wait to let Rousey kick her in the stomach to get out of the corner.
- Deville taps. Yeesh. This was messy.
- “I wish I was doing pretty much anything else right now.” – a friend of mine watching.
- Another buddy of mine pointed out how the graphic for this match shows that the design team just photoshopped Flair’s body red to try to look like her gear, rather than take another reference photo. Budget cuts, right? Take a look. Gotta cover up those shoulders or there might be a riot!
Falls Count Anywhere Match
- “Let’s revisit how this heated up in an edition of Happy Corbin’s talk show that many people believed at one point in time was cancelled, but it actually wasn’t.” – LOL What? Who writes this garbage for Cole to say? It’s not his fault, but goddamn that was awkward and pointless.
- Is Corey Graves talking about cutting a zebra in half to avoid mentioning beheadings?
- Remember, this is Falls Count Anywhere, so they’ll run around the stage and it’ll be McIntyre against both Moss and Corbin, assuredly.
- Speaking of which, they’re already on the stage and McIntyre is in a 2-on-1.
- OH DAMN Moss landed right on his head. That’s not good. He’s got to have neck issues from this.
- A Claymore hurts more if you have a sword in your hand, I guess.
The Miz has someone in mind who can be a tag team with him against The Mysterios. No indication as to who that is, other than that he’s handsome. Drop your predictions in the comments.
Raw Women’s Championship Match
- I’m not expecting much here, to be honest.
- Slooooooooow.
- How many leg drops are going to happen in this match? And are any of them going to look good?
- I’m cool with this just ending. Sorry, Lita. I’m just not digging it. It’s losing my interest.
- I guarantee you no pinfalls are going to make me think Lita has a chance to win this.
- Lita gets the ability to break out of the Disarmher and grab the rope with her foot to break up the Manhandle Slam.
- Lita’s able to do the moonsault. Now that that’s happened, the match is sure to be over soon.
- And there it is. Becky gets the pin.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
- ….this match didn’t even happen. The Usos attacked The Viking Raiders during the entrance and that’s it. It’s just called off. They didn’t even attack them in any kind of brutal way. Wow. That’s horribly lame.
Gotta cut that match to have EVEN MORE PROMOS. Holy shit. Half this event has been video packages.
Well, in 20 minutes when they stop showing recap footage, I’ll be back with something to say.
WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match
- So we’re doing the thing here, too, where it’s pod person, pod person, pod person, the two to start the match, and the final pod person? Dumb transparency. Maybe if you say “stupendous” a few more times, that’ll trick the audience into believing it, right?
- Kicking things off are Seth Rollins and Austin Theory.
- Theory’s been thrown through Lashley’s pod. The first pod entrant is….Riddle.
- If they do this whole “Lashley is hurt and can’t compete” thing and take him out just so they can do a Lesnar vs. Lashley match on television leading up to Mania and milk this…
- Next is AJ Styles as Lashley is being taken out of the match.
- Next is technically Lashley, but obviously, he’s not out there. Instead, Lesnar breaks himself out of his pod and starts wrecking everyone.
- They’ve said Lashley is undergoing concussion protocol and is not entering the match.
- Lesnar’s taken out Rollins, then Riddle, then Styles.
- Theory’s tried to climb and escape the cage, but Brock jumped and crawled up there like a spider, super fast. Time for an F5 off the pod!
- Theory is eliminated by Lesnar. The end. No Lashley or replacement, it seems.
