WWE RAW (1/8/2024)
The show begins with Drew McIntyre saying he needed the title, but he doesn’t have it. He has been replaying the match, and he had it won, but he cost himself. Drew has been thinking about this, and perhaps Seth has been right. The only person holding Drew McIntyre back is Drew McIntyre. He needs to get things right and step away from WWE for a while. This has been a lifelong dream. But when he looks back on the match, Damian Priest cost him. Why did he try to cash in during? He cost himself. Maybe he should leave for nine years, and then he can be praised as a hero when he returns. CM Punk makes his way out.
CM Punk says we are in Piper country. Perhaps Drew should have wore a kilt so people will like him. Is he known for talking? Since Punk heard his name, he figured he would come out and listen to Drew talk. McIntyre congratulates CM Punk on still being here a month later. Some have a bet in the back than he will self destruct sooner than later. Drew is one of the few on the roster who traveled with Punk, and he knows what he is truly like. Remember when he was champion? When he referred to himself as the leader of the locker room. Back then, Drew needed a leader. He was just a kid with personal issues. His career was in a tailspin, and he needed a leader to help him navigate this place, but Punk saw him as a threat.
CM Punk hasn’t got any demons, because he is a demon. Once he got fired, he figured it out and stepped up. After nine years, he is CM Punk’s leader now. Punk tells him that he just followed his lead on the way back. When he is pushed, he is Satan himself. He is a real nice guy, until it is time not to be. Punk isn’t here to be friends, he is here to win the Royal Rumble and main event WrestleMania. McIntyre says that if he meets him the Rumble he will eliminate him, and go on to main event again. CM Punk says it is getting spicy in here, so he is about to walk away before he knocks his teeth down his throat. Nobody can’t stop him from winning the Royal Rumble, and because he is so nice, he will throw Drew McIntyre out last.
#1. Finn Balor (w/ Damian Priest) vs. Tommaso Ciampa (w/ Johnny Gargano) – Winner: Tommaso Ciampa
Becky Lynch says Nia Jax didn’t end her, so maybe this isn’t the end. Perhaps this is just the beginning.
#2. Kofi Kingston vs. Ludwig Kaiser – Winner: Draw via double countout
Kingston and Kaiser continue to fight after the bell. Producers and referees rush out to stop them, but it gets nasty when Ludwig throws a chair at Kofi. After some more offense, officials finally split them up, only for Kaiser to get away from them and dropkick Kofi’s head in to the steel steps. Ludwig is satisfied with that.
Backstage, Ludwig says that Kofi took Vinci’s head, so now as he stands by himself with the weight of Imperium, he took Kofi’s head. Next up, Michael Cole gets an interview in the ring with Nia Jax.
Michael Cole says she shocked the world when she beat Becky Lynch last week. Nia Jax says she wasn’t shocked. What would be shocking is if she broke Michael Cole’s face. She is going to the Royal Rumble to earn her spot and no one can stop her. Rhea Ripley interrupts her. She says Nia likes to talk a big game. Last year, Rhea threw Nia out of the Rumble. The fact is that while she beat Becky, she isn’t “Bloody” Rhea Ripley. She does not own this division, so take this as a warning… if she wins the Rumble, keep her name out of her mouth. Nia responds by saying the only reason Ripley is still champion is because she is scared to face her one-on-one. When she wins the Rumble, she is coming for Ripley’s title.
Just as Cody Rhodes gets ready for an interview, Shinsuke Nakamura attacks him again. Officials quickly break it up.
#3. [Womens Tag Team Championship] Kayden Carter & Katana Chance (c) vs. Piper Niven & Chelsea Green – Winners: Carter & Chance retain
Because of the backstage fight from earlier, the main event between Cody Rhodes and Shinsuke Nakamura is now a street fight.
R-Truth speaks in a heartful vignette about how he was born to be part of the Judgment Day, and how he has always been there at its side. After watching the package, Damian Priest says it was hilarious, but he will handle the R-Truth problem when the time comes. The rest of Judgment Day agree to handle their business.
#4. The Miz (w/ R-Truth) vs. JD McDonagh (w/ Dominik Mysterio) – Winner: The Miz
Seth Rollins says he has never taken a World title in to WrestleMania before. This year is his. He has been a fighting champion. A workhorse champion. But the work is not done, because he has one question. Who is he going to beat on the grandest stage of them all? Jinder Mahal shows up.
He says Seth Rollins speaks no truth. He has brought no change or value. How dare he have the audacity to overlook one of the greatest champions of all time? This disrespect will not be tolerated. Rollins says he is right, they have been overlooking him. He asks Jinder to take a swing at him, but he doesn’t… at least, not until Rollins turns away. A fight ensues, and the World Champion stands tall this time.
