WWE RAW (9/2/2024)
We open with Wade Barrett welcoming us to Monday Night RAW, and introducing the newest commentator in Joe Tessitore, who hypes up the Denver crowd ahead of the show.
Next up, Rhea Ripley makes her way to the ring. She is happy to have got the win over Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio at Bash In Berlin. We’re not done destroying the Judgment Day. We’re just getting started. She pinned the Women’s World Champion, so she reckons it is time she gets back what she never lost. Dominik Mysterio interrupts her.
Despite the crowd booing the hell out of him, Mysterio eventually manages to tell Ripley that Liv Morgan accepts her challenge. She beat her before and will do it again. Ripley tells Dom to tell her she will face her anytime, anyplace. Liv Morgan blindsides Ripley and pushes her out of the ring. Rhea gets her ankle stuck in the rope, leaving her in a compromised position. Damian Priest arrives to help her out and scare off the Judgment Day.
#1. Alpha Academy vs. American Made – Winners: American Made via submission
Chad Gable talks some trash about Uncle Howdy and the Wyatt Sicks, which brings out Uncle Howdy. 375 days. His sanity crumbled. The silence is deafening. He can still hear it. His life is no longer his. If this is the path they have chosen, what is he to deny their undoing? They gambled their very being, and the Wyatt Sicks will collect the debt.
#2. Zelina Vega vs. Shayna Baszler (w/ Pure Fusion Collective) – Winner: Shayna Baszler
The Pure Fusion Collective threatens to beat up Zelina Vega, until Lyra Valkyria returns to RAW to make the save. It isn’t enough, though, as they are both taken out. Sonya Deville threatens every single person in the back and asks for them to take their shot.
CM Punk makes his way to the ring. He talks about what happened at Bash In Berlin. There was someone else who did well there, and his name is Gunther. Punk congratulates Gunther on his title victory over Randy Orton. Despite that, he believes it is time he woke up as champion. Gunther should enjoy his time as champion, because Punk and his fans will enjoy taking it from him.
Drew McIntyre blindsides Punk! He viciously beats him up at ringside. He is far from done with CM Punk. He throws Punk the ring and hits him with a second Claymore. Officials come to the ring to stop him, but they can’t. McIntyre takes Punk’s bracelet, breaks it, and shoves what remains in his mouth. Following a third Claymore, more officials are on hand to get McIntyre away. A stretcher is brought out to help Punk.
After the break, CM Punk is seen being wheeled to the ambulance. Drew McIntyre is here! He beats up Punk some more and leaves him bloodied.
#3. [IC Title #1 Contenders Tournament] Dominik Mysterio vs. Ilja Dragunov vs. Dragon Lee – Winner: Ilja Dragunov
Braun Strowman is hurt, but he has been cleared to wrestle, so he asks Adam Pearce if he can be in the IC title #1 Contenders match tonight. While reluctant, Pearce accepts his request.
#4. [Women’s Tag Team Title #1 Contenders] Iyo Sky & Kairi Sane vs. Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn – Winners: Fyre & Dawn
Gunther stands in front of the WWE Universe to say he has beaten the best version of Randy Orton. The previous weekend was just another chapter in the reign of the greatest World Champion in history. Sami Zayn interrupts his promo.
Sami Zayn reminds Gunther that the true legends of this business won the Intercontinental Championship, and used that as a stepping stone to the top prize. That is exactly what Gunther did, and it is what he is going to do now. Gunther reminds Sami that when he won the IC title in the past, he took a step down. That’s why the people like him. When he gets knocked down, he returns and picks himself up. When he hears Sami talk, he hears the passion in his voice. If he really wants a shot at this, his answer is no.
Sami Zayn doesn’t understand why he is refusing a fight. It could be because he is the only guy who has beaten him in the middle of this ring. He can run and hide as much as he likes, but he is coming for him, and he will become the World Heavyweight Champion.
