Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

Zero Hour Pre-Show

  • We’re IMMEDIATELY starting off with Cabana against Henry. No wasting time on the pre-show.
  • Cabana gets the win with a moonsault. Generic match. Nothing noteworthy going on from my perspective.
  • Now that Cheeseburger is out, let’s chat in the comments. What do you get on your burger? I’m more of a Keep It Simple guy with just lettuce, cheese and bacon, but maybe a fried egg. Sometimes, caramelized onions and BBQ sauce instead. You?
  • By the way, I’m assuming Trust Busters wins this. And I’m right.
  • Backstage, Prince Nana was interviewed by Lexy Nair. He said he’s purchased Tully Blanchard Enterprises. No Tully Blanchard, that’s right. I wonder why they made that change so early.
  • Zayne, Deppen and Christian are putting up more of a fight than I had anticipated. Considering the size difference, Cage and The Gates of Agony arguably should have had an easier time.
  • I should have predicted Nightingale to win since she’s more signed under Khan, rather than to go with the bigger name. Maybe this is a sign she’ll be a big deal in ROH.

ROH World Championship Match

  • They’re doing this match FIRST? That’s strange. I wonder why.
  • To be honest, I’m not feeling this match as much as I was hoping I would. I was expecting something special and it feels like it could be the same quality as any other match we’ve seen from Claudio before on TV, even.
  • Claudio wins the title! He’s won his first “world title” to kick off this event.

ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship Match

  • This is a match I know damn near nothing about, having not seen anything but maybe one match of Dalton Castle and nothing else. I’m going into it pretty blind.
  • From my perspective, at least, Castle’s coming across the star of this match, but The Boys are entirely fall guys who will lose it for him (so maybe that’s a subversion). The Righteous seem like a standard cult-like entity where you could swap people out, but they might have something to offer.
  • Oh hey, Castle and The Boys win the belts. Maybe because Vincent is on the Impact Wrestling roster?

ROH Pure Championship Match

  • We’ve had two title changes already. Now, I’m even more leaning toward Yuta retaining than I was before, and he was already my pick.
  • Competitive match. This wasn’t my favorite style, but I can see why people enjoy it. The right guy won, in my mind, as Yuta retained the title by pinfall.

Rush vs. Dragon Lee

  • I really wish I had something to talk about. The in-ring action is perfectly fine, but I have literally nothing at all to say. This and most of this card so far has just been a series of wrestling maneuvers. They’re talented athletes, but I’m an analyst, and all I can say is “That was a match” and not much more.
  • I’m sure this match means more to people who have followed their careers. Believe me, I’m fully aware I’m coming into this without that setup and that’s a handicap on my end.
  • From the little bit of story I’m getting here, Rush needs to win. Not only would that make more sense if he’s the older brother and the heel, but he’s also the guy signed to AEW. If the goal is Rush and Andrade against Lucha Bros at some point, Dragon Lee doesn’t make any sense to win.
  • There we go. Rush wins by pinfall.

ROH Women’s World Championship Match

  • Seems like now is the time for a title change, right?
  • The story here is power (Martinez) against submissions (Deeb). For the most part, any time Deeb locks in a submission, the action screeches to a halt.
  • Martinez has Deeb up, ready to slam her. The commentary team is super excited. She lightly drops her. They go nuts. Sure.
  • Martinez makes Deeb tap out? Can’t say I agree with the decision, but I’m a fan of Martinez (normally, not in this match) so I’m okay with it.

ROH World Television Championship Match

  • Well, since I was wrong about the women’s title not changing hands, I guess this belt might? I was about 50/50 with a slight lean toward Lethal going into this.
  • Starting this with a brawl before the bell ringing to effectively make it No DQ for a little bit is yet another reason to possibly take the title off Samoa Joe.
  • Then again, Satnam Singh being thrown out of the ringside area points in the opposite direction. I guess Sonjay Dutt is the one to interfere, if that happens.
  • I’m also so nervous these days when people do suicide dives. That goes especially true for people like Joe, who are bigger with a history of concussions.
  • Joe kicks out of the Lethal Injection AND being struck with the title belt after a distraction by Sonjay Dutt.
  • Joe retains by submission. Hell, at this point, with these past two titles staying put, now I’m starting to think The Briscoes could actually win the tag titles.

ROH World Tag Team Championship Match

  • Competitive. The energy isn’t low. Fans are into it. I’m struggling after being mostly bored for this event, to be honest, but I’m trying to stay focused.
  • First fall goes to The Briscoes.
  • Both teams are brawling on the outside. Why is the referee not counting?
  • Cash Wheeler is nailed in the head with the ring bell and kicks out. Not a call I would have made. We’re supposed to believe this guy got hit in the skull with a ring bell and he’s able to kick out easier than The Briscoes hitting their finisher? That should have been a scenario where Dax Harwood broke up the pin. Way more believable that way.
  • Fall 2 goes to FTR.
  • Referee is down. No one can count a pinfall in favor of The Briscoes.
  • “Cash! Push him! Please!” That made me laugh.
  • FTR hits a Big Rig and the referee takes a while to get to the ring. That gives Briscoe a chance to kick out (for apparently the first time ever).
  • Wheeler is able to break up a Doomsday Device pinfall.
  • I don’t know what that Wheeler/Mark vertical suplex onto the ropes spot was supposed to be, but it was just a tangled mess.
  • 20 minutes remaining. I wonder if they’re going to finish this with a draw. For the record, that’s not my prediction—just a curiosity.
  • OOF! Wheeler suplexes Mark off the turnbuckle into a table. That was a solid crash.
  • Piledriver from the second rope! That’s the end of the match with FTR retaining.
  • Easily the best match, by a country mile.
  • After the match, Harwood cut a quick promo about how much he loves professional wrestling. Then, William Regal, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta came out to stand on the stage and applaud FTR, but also hold up their titles in a semblance of a challenge.
