We bring you coverage for the episode of WWE SmackDown airing on January 17, 2025. Missed RAW? You can find the results here.
Rey Mysterio opens the show. He welcomes his hometown to Friday Night SmackDown. This is the home of the 619. It feels great to be back home with everyone and his family. He requested to be out tonight, as he sets to do the impossible again, before he steps foot in the Royal Rumble. He is going to be realistic. The competition is fierce this year. He lists several of the names who have already declared their spots. When he did it back in 2006, he did it for a friend we all know very well. Kevin Owens interrupts him.
Kevin Owens apologizes for interrupting, but he had to come out here because he heard him talking about winning the Rumble. He means this from the bottom of his heart, there are few he respects as much as he does Mysterio. He main evented WrestleMania with Stone Cold Steve Austin, and he won tag titles with his best friend in the main event of WrestleMania. He now holds the championship belt he grew up watching his idols win. There is one last thing to accomplish, and that is to step in the ring and have a match with Rey Mysterio. He can’t wait to see Rey win the Rumble, but after he does, he needs to promise he will choose him as the champion he wants to face at WrestleMania.
Rey Mysterio is all about competition and challenges, but he isn’t the champion. Cody Rhodes is. But, if he goes on to beat Cody, and Rey wins the Rumble, he will gladly face him. Owens starts yelling at him that he is the champion. Has he been brainwashed? Rey Mysterio says he is delusional and reminding him of Dominik right now. Owens attacks him, but Rey counters and attempts a 619. Owens evades and gets out of there.
#1. Bianca Belair & Naomi vs. Nia Jax & Candice LeRae – Winners: Belair & Naomi
Backstage, Chelsea Green gloats in front of Michin about defending her US title. B-Fab steps up and challenges Piper Niven to a match tonight.
#2. Jimmy Uso vs. Carmelo Hayes – Winner: No Contest after Tonga & Fatu’s interference
Solo Sikoa enters to join Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu. He is given a microphone. After some time, Sikoa says nothing and walks out. Jacob Fatu picks up the mic. They are tired of the disrespect and the hate. Even on his worst day, they still can’t touch him. They don’t give a damn if they cheer or boo them. The one thing he will not let him do is act like he didn’t get his. The crazy thing about this situation is he’s just getting started.
LA Knight’s music plays. He blindsides them! he gets in some offense, but it isn’t enough. Braun Strowman returns! He takes out Tonga and has a standoff with Fatu, but unluckily for everyone watching, Tonga recovers to pull Fatu out of the ring.
