We begin with John Cena who sprints out to the ring. We get a recap of Cena’s promo last week.
Cena reacts to Roman signing a contract with Finn at Summerslam. He is happy for Finn Balor, but it proves Roman sucks and that he’s a scared little kid. He accepts Finn’s challenge, but rejects Cena. It’s not that he can’t handle rejection, it’s Roman’s reasoning. He rejected him because he didn’t change his look, music or his heart. It’s like asking The Rock to come back as Dwyane Too Small Johnson.
Roman needs to understand that it’s the fans who allow everything. Roman expected Cena to change because that’s what Roman has to do. Roman Reigns has to change every two years because they stopped caring about him, and you don’t believe in him and Roman doesn’t believe in himself. He’s a lazy stooge named Joe, who coasts by every gimmick and is afraid. He didn’t reject Cena of how he looks, he rejected him because of how he’d make him look.
Out comes Baron Corbin. Corbin says they gotta talk. The crowd chants you suck and Cena says he doesn’t know who he is. Now he recognizes him. He looks horrible. Corbin knows and he’s in a bad way. Things aren’t going good, and they’ve never been close and Corbin’s life is falling apart. He’s lost his house, his crown, his credit and his identity.
Last week, he sustained an injury to a sensitive part of his body. Cena questions if he’s no longer able to surf the Internet and he’s unable to perform. Cena has a different idea. Corbin says his wife took the kids and he sees the charitable John Cena and sees the Make-A-Wish MVP.
Cena asks Minnesota if he should help Corbin. It’s a mixed reaction. Cena can’t make heads or tails of it, but he gives Corbin 100 bucks. Corbin feels insulted because he’s rich. He wants to be on the Suicide Squad.
He offers to be Corbin’s stunt double. Corbin really asks Cena if he’s gonna kick a poor man while he’s down. He then calls Cena a self-absorbed tightwad and a Hollywood sell out with an ego the size of California. Cena then says he’ll give Corbin something he needs. An Atittude Adjustment. He delivers the AA to Corbin.
Recap of Usos against the Mysterios the last two weeks. Rey is backstage warming up and is approached by Dominik. He tells Rey he’ll keep his eye on Jey while Rey focuses on Jimmy. Rey tells Dominik that he’s made some rookie mistakes and Rey tells Dominik to watch him in the ring.
Rey Mysterio vs. Jimmy Uso
Mysterio pinned Jimmy when Dominik gave Rey a boost with his legs like The Usos did.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
Recap of Belair/Carmella last week.
Out comes Bianca to celebrate 100 days as champion. Now she’s asked how the next 100 days will go. Bianca says these last few months have been amazing. It gets better and better and she doesn’t know how she’s going to top it. Out comes Carmella. She congratulated Bianca, but if she wants to coronate her legacy, she should give another match to a woman who held the title for 130 days. She says the lights at Rolling Loud distracted her. Out comes Zelina Vega.
She says Carmella too pretty to be a three time loser. Then she tells Bianca that the WWE Universe wants to see Bianca face a rising star like her and Bianca accepts her challenge before Carmella jumps her from behind and both her and Zelina jump her before a returning Sasha Banks comes to help her. She helps Bianca up to her feet and poses with her.
Reginald is interviewed backstage. He said he was willing to go anything to be in WWE, but now that he’s champion, he’ll do anything to keep it. It doesn’t matter who he faces because he has to look over his shoulders and be prepared for anything. So it’s only second nature to him. Whoever faces him should expect the unexpected.
Reginald makes his entrance. Gable and Otis answer the challenge. Otis takes a mix and says it’s not me, it’s him, and blasts Reginald with a shoulder block before the match with Gable starts.
Reggie vs. Chad Gable – 24/7 Championship
Reggie retains by DQ when Otis gets involved. He tosses him out of the ring but Reggie rolls through and backflips his way to the entrance.
Adam Pearce is backstage with the contract between Roman and Finn for Summerslam. Deville announces tonight’s main event will be Zelina Vega and Carmella against Belair and Banks as we go to commercial.
Pearce and Deville come out and say there will be a signing in the most efficient way possible with no violence even though that’s how these things go. Finn comes out first, then Roman.
Roman sits at the head of the table as opposed to across Finn. Pearce asks both to sign on the dotted line. The crowd chants for Cena and Roman said we’ve already seen Mr. Missionary tonight. He asks Finn if he heard Cena’s promo. He claims that Cena is saying Finn is less than Cena because Cena said accepting your challenge means I’m ducking him. He’s different. Roman sees Finn as worthy, he’s hungry and he wants it. He’s worthy of a title match and worthy of a beat down at Summerslam. If Finn signs the contract, he’ll smash him and send him back to NXT. Roman signs.
Finn says Roman thinks highly of himself and maybe justifiably so. Finn says it’ll be a privilege to return to NXT as Universal Champion. As Finn is about to sign, Baron Corbin jumps Finn from behind and sends him over the time keeper’s area. Corbin takes the contract and as he’s about to sign the contract, Cena comes out sends Corbin in the ring post. He takes the contract and signs his name. Roman looks displeased.
Paul Heyman approaches Pearce and Deville. Heyman says what we just saw was great for TV, but what do they plan to do at Summerslam? Heyman claims it’s not legally binding because Finn’s name is on the document. Pearce says he sees Cena’s name and Roman’s name, and that’s good enough for him. Deville makes it official. Heyman looks pissed.
Big E, Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Apollo Crews, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode
After a series of moves, Nakamura wins the match for his team when Nakamura pins Crews with the Kinsasha.
Recap of Edge/Rollins last week.
Out comes Edge.
Back from the break and a hyped up Rollins is in the ring now, not Edge. We see what happened during the break as Rollins attacked Edge from behind on the ramp. Rollins destroyed Edge and hit him with a camera as he tried to get back up. Cole says Edge was helped to the back after the attack.
Rollins takes the mic and tells the fans to shut up. He rants about how what goes around comes around, and how Edge has done nothing but take from him. Rollins calls it a revolution, and he’s a revolutionary. Rollins shows us a video package of recent events that led to where he and Edge are now. Rollins says he is not ashamed, that was a hard thing to do, but the right thing to do. Fans chant “we want Becky!” now for Rollins’ fiancee, Becky Lynch. Rollins says he is the rightful heir to the Universal Title, and if he can’t be champion, neither can Edge. Rollins tosses the mic and laughs, then exits the ring as fans boo.
Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair vs. Zelina Vega and Carmella
Banks makes Carmella tap for the victory.
Winners: Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks
After the match, the two celebrate before Sasha hits a backstabber from nowhere followed by a Bank Statement to which Bianca taps. She has it locked in as SmackDown goes of the air.
